Between The Light
In this series I explore painting with a very different approach (compared to my vibrant acrylics on canvas) by letting my works be guided by the organic lines and shapes of the plywood. This approach to painting surfaced in January of 2019 before Canada became aware of the pandemic on the other side of the planet. Interestingly, many of the figures stand alone in dark landscapes which feels eerily like an expression of what was to come when COVID left us feeling lost in the dark. I find relief in making these quieter works on wood, their simplicity in form and colour creates an atmosphere of calm for me. There is rest here in the solitude of these painted spaces.
